First-year success isn't always guaranteed after a coaching change, but head coach Shanae Govan-Williams and the Pearl River women's basketball team exceeded expectations all season long.
The Wildcats' run came up just short in the Region 23 Championship game Friday night, falling to Northwest 60-55, but Pearl River still had plenty to celebrate. PRCC rattled off 22 wins, finished 13-1 in MACCC play to claim the conference championship and made its first appearance in the Region 23 title game in two years.

The South Mississippi Toy Fest held its 14th show on February 7, 2026, at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Since launching in July of 2021, the event has grown tremendously, hosting two to three shows per year and drawing large crowds from across the region.
This year’s event featured more than 100 vendors offering food, toys, comics, trading cards, video games, collectibles, and much more. The show continues to be a major attraction in the area.

The longer of the two, the Leaf River, begins its 180-mile journey from the Bienville National Forest in Scott County before making its way through Covington, Jones and eventually into Forrest County.

Carroll Academy picked up wins on Monday and Tuesday on the baseball diamond but lost its last game of the week at Kirk Academy.
The Rebels defeated Delta Academy 17-4 last Monday, outhitting the Raiders 9-2 and taking advantage of three defensive errors and 11 walks issued by Delta pitching.
Hayes White (1-1) got the win on the mound, yielding all four runs on two hits, walking four and fanning three.
He had an RBI and scored two runs on offense.

The J.Z. George girls fast-pitch softball team extended its winning streak to five with a sweep of its three opponents last week.
The Lady Jags began the week with a 17-2 victory at Leake Central Monday. J.Z. George scored nine runs in the first, one in the second, five in the third and two in the fourth. Leake scored one run each in the second and third innings.
Saralyn Roberts got the win in the circle, allowing both runs on one hit, striking out eight. She had a single and double, driving in two runs.
