Grayden Harris was virtually unhittable in Saturday’s 6-1 series clinching win over North Alabama. Harris delivered a career high 13 strikeouts across a career high seven innings.
“My past few starts I’ve had problems with focusing in and going right at the guy every single pitch,” Harris said. “Today, I wouldn’t let that happen. I told myself I’m going to go right at the guy and trust my stuff. That worked out pretty good.”

Cate Hargett, an 11-year-old in Greenwood, needs a bone marrow transplant as the search for her perfect donor match continues.
Cate, who dreams of becoming a librarian or author, was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder when she was 2 months old.
The Pillow Academy fifth grader has continued to fight bone marrow failure, which occurs when the tissue inside bones cannot produce enough healthy blood cells on its own.

GOODMAN, Miss. — No. 2 Pearl River baseball jumped on Holmes early and never let up Friday afternoon, cruising to a 10-0 run-rule victory on the road against the Bulldogs.
"All of our pitchers that went out threw well today. We threw a lot of strikes and didn't walk a batter, so that was really good to see," head coach Michael Avalon said. "On offense, we took what they gave us and that's something we need to build on. Our guys get pitched pretty tough, so you have to be disciplined and cash in your freebies."

The Mississippi House of Representatives has inserted language from its measures aimed at improving the wellbeing of inmates into Senate bills after the House bills died.

The Magnolia State will be the first state to ban neutrality agreements in the workplace and just the fourth to enact the right to a private ballot in unionization efforts.
With the signature of Governor Tate Reeves (R), Mississippi will become the first state in the U.S. to ban so-called neutrality agreements in the workplace.
A “neutrality agreement” is a contract between a union and an employer under which the employer agrees to support a union’s attempt to organize its workforce.

The NCAA has appealed the February preliminary injunction granted by Chancery Court Judge Robert Whitwell in the case brought by Ole Miss and Trinidad Chambliss over the star quarterback’s eligibility to the Mississippi Supreme Court.

To live in Piney Woods of south Mississippi is to reside in a state of gentle geographical irony. Our cultural reference points—whether food, music, or manners—are widely shared and passed down with limited variation. Yet to the southwest stands a major city that has never subscribed to the notion of consistent cultural norms. New Orleans remains gloriously indifferent to consistency or restraint.

POPLARVILLE, MISS. — All 11 Wildcats on the roster scored Thursday night as Pearl River men's basketball defeated Copiah Lincoln 78-54 to advance to the Region 23 Tournament Quarterfinals.
The Wildcats will now head to the Quarterfinal for a ninth consecutive season.
"I reminded them at halftime that this could be the end of our season," head coach Chris Oney said. "All that we've done and the strides that we've made would be for nothing. I didn't overreact or panic. I knew that once we settled into the game, we were going to be fine."

Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney said Thursday that he expects those numbers to climb as reporting continues.
The Mississippi Insurance Department reports that over 12,000 claims have been filed totaling in excess of $107 million related to damage from Winter Storm Fern.
The storm left much of North Mississippi blanketed in ice for days with over 100,000 without power. The impacts were felt in nearly half of the state’s counties, with 29 deaths reported as a result of the storm.

Roger Wicker, this state’s senior member of the U.S. Senate, is suddenly a hero to many Mississippians for his tough stance against an ICE detention center that a federal agency had proposed for the hamlet of Byhalia in the state’s northeast corner.
I agree that Sen. Wicker deserves a round of thanks.
The Republican lashed out against the Trump administration’s proposal to create the facility, and they have pretty much since shelved the idea.
Minds can change, but it seems final for now that the facility will go elsewhere. Godspeed! Watch that swingin’ door behind you.

PENSACOLA, Fla - Missy Bilderback’s first season as head coach of Southern Miss women’s basketball is over after a 89-72 loss to ULM in the third round of the Sun Belt Tournament.
“Just a tough day,” Bilderback said. “Obviously we are disappointed. This has been an incredibly fun team to coach. I really enjoyed our team this year. Anytime you have a season end, especially with a group of players and people you care about, it makes it tough.”
