Many in the area will honor those who served our country and fought for our freedom, those who sacrificed everything – some even sacrificing their lives – so we can enjoy living in the land of the free and the home of the brave.
On Thursday, November 8, Winona Christian School will have a Veterans Day program beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the gymnasium. Winona Christian School seniors, Cade and Colby Marlow, both members of the Mississippi National Guard, will present our nation’s colors.
Friday, a Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, at the Veterans Monument on the grounds of the Carroll County Courthouse in Carrollton. There will be a combined Carroll Academy Student Council, State Guard and local veteran Color Guard, the recognition all veterans, the placement of a commemorative wreath. The guest speaker will be Justice George Mitchell, Jr. of the Fifth Judicial District of Mississippi. The ladies of Third Arrow Chapter, MSDAR, will serve light refreshments.
Sunday, Nov. 11. the Town of Vaiden will have its Veterans Day Program “A Salute to Our Country’s Veterans” at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 11 at the Vaiden High School Gymnasium. The speaker will be LTC James S. Bennett, Base Operations Supervisor at Camp McCain.
Also Sunday, Winona Baptist Church will honor veterans during its morning service at 10 a.m.
Monday, Nov. 12, the American Legion Post 52-DAV Chapter 54 and the Thomas Rodney Chapter Mississippi State Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its Veterans Day program at 9:30 a.m. at the Montgomery County Courthouse.
In addition to the annual observance program, the Winona Garden Club, in conjunction with the Thomas Rodney Chapter MSSDAR, will hold a dedication ceremony for the placement of a Blue Star Memorial marker on the courthouse grounds. This marker honors all armed forces who have defended the United States of America.
