The Carroll County School District’s feeding program will be held Monday through Friday in the J.Z. George High School parking lot and the old Vaiden High School Gymnasium parking lot at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
To receive meals, children must be present. The meals are available for all children 18 and under. District officials ask that people remain in their vehicles to ensure social distancing. People are welcome to walk up and get their meals. Meals are consumed off site, and no one is allowed in the facilities.
Superintendent Jim Ray said the district fed around 200 students per day last week, and he expects they will feed more as the days go by. He said if changes to the program have to be made, they will adjust and inform the public. Ray said it is definite that school is out through Friday, April 17.
He said they have a definite plan in place on how to handle distance learning, and parents will receive an AIMS message with instructions.
“It’ll go out later today,” Ray said, last Thursday.
With the pandemic looming, one of the biggest questions has been about graduation. Ray said once it is determined they can go back to the school, it will be looked at then to see if there are any stipulations at that time about gatherings and holding events.
“The seniors will get their diplomas, but as far as the ceremony goes, we’ll look at it at that point and time,” he said. “It’s not necessarily our call.”
Ray said as of now they haven’t decided how they’re going to handle their April school board meeting. He said they’re still evaluating what’s the best option that will keep everyone safe.
