A Kilmichael home sustained heavy damage as 50 percent of the home succumbed to the blazed.
“[The] fire started in a bedroom in the front on the home where most of the major damage was,” stated Kilmichael Volunteer Fire Chief Dave Eldridge in a release. “Fire spread to an adjacent bathroom and hallway with major damage. The remaining rooms suffered heat, smoke and water damage.”
The fire ignited in the Pecan Drive single family home owned by Kathy White before the call went out to the Kilmichael Volunteer Fire Department at 4:56 p.m. on Feb. 5, according to Eldridge.
“There was an occupant asleep in another bedroom at the time of the fire. She stated the start was a burning candle in the bedroom near the window, and the cat could have knocked it off,” stated Eldridge. “[The] home suffered major damage.”
Eight volunteer fire fighters responded with two trucks, and the fire was under control around 6:30 p.m., he said.
No injuries were reported.
