The field is deepening in Carroll County with challengers filing qualifying paperwork this week.
As of press time Wednesday, multiple candidates have qualified to run for the offices of sheriff, chancery clerk, supervisor- Beat 1, both Northern and Southern District justice court judge, and Constable, Southern District.
Currently, in the race for sheriff, incumbent Sheriff Clint Walker is seeking another term, while David Mims is challenging him for the position. In the Chancery Clerk race, Monica Jones and Christy Noah have both qualified. Incumbent Sugar Mullins announced that he will retire after this term is up, leaving the seat up for grabs.
In the race for justice court judge, both incumbents Jimmy Avant- Northern District judge and Dorothy Branch- Southern District judge have qualified for re-election and have drawn challengers in their races. Therrell Turner has qualified to run for the Northern District judge seat and Tinesha Erve-Ernest has qualified to run for the Southern District judge seat.
In the Beat 1 supervisor race, incumbent Jim Neill is seeking another term, while Scott Montgomery will challenge him for the position. In the Constable, Southern District race, incumbent Rob Banks has qualified for another term while challenger Travis Gatewood seeks a first term as constable.
In other races, incumbent Wilton Neal has qualified seeking another term as tax assessor, and last week Durward Stanton qualified seeking another term as Circuit Clerk. Incumbent supervisors -- Rickie Corley, Terry Brown, Dill Tucker and Claude Fluker -- are all seeking another term; Mark Stiles is seeking another term as coroner; and incumbent Joe Holman is seeking another term as constable for the Northern District.
