After Atmos Energy dug up holes on McCarley Road to tie in existing gas lines, the company patched the road, but the patches have settled leaving a rough road. Supervisor Jim Neill said he feels Atmos should pay for repaving the road, and county officials agreed, sending Atmos a $68,000 bill.
During their Monday board meeting, Neill mentioned that on McCarley Road near the Carroll County School Bus Shop that after Atmos dug up holes to tie off a gas line in the road, the ride is a lot bumpier.
Neill said the county wants Atmos to pay for the paving of the road. He said before Atmos completed the project, the road wasn’t in bad shape. Now, it’s in a much worse shape than it was.
“The road has multiple holes in it. We paved that road 13 years ago, and it had a few places but not as many as it has now. Now it’s just bump after bump after bump,” Neill said.
He said the county hasn’t heard anything back from the gas company yet.
“What about the town? Isn’t that road in the town also?” Chancery Clerk Sugar Mullins asked.
“Yes,” Neil said. “The town can get in on it also if they’d like.”
In another unrelated matter, several buildings in the county are just one step away from having better lighting.
Trey Wiggins with Light Edison told supervisors the project to switch over all of their lighting can now move forward. Wiggins told them once they received their grant which is expected to be $50,000, Entergy would add in $9,500. The total price of the project would be $75,000, with the board putting in $15,000.
He said the project would include the courthouses in Carrollton and Vaiden, the libraries and sheriff’s department.
Wiggins said the board will begin to see savings up to $15,000 in the first year of the switch. He said the board could finance their portion through their first year savings.
“There may be a little interest in between but we would get all of our money back with the savings you all will see,” he said.
Wiggins told supervisors the project would take two months. He said they had to receive the grant first, then the crew could come in and start switching over the lighting.
