The Carroll County School Board voted Thursday night to approve employee overtime pay as it is earned during its meeting held at Vaiden’s City Hall.
During September’s meeting, this same issue arose about employee overtime pay. Some of the board members feel that there should be a way to reduce overtime pay.
Last month, board president Kenneth DeLoach raised questions of how many buses are used during away games.
Transportation Director DeWitt Cobbins said four buses are taken. One for the football players, one for equipment, one for cheerleaders and one for the band. Cobbins said he’d tried to combine the cheerleader and band buses, and it doesn’t work, stating that the students were uncomfortable.
Also, the board approved changing copy machine vendors. The board received two proposals from DEX Copiers and Southern Duplication. During their September meeting, Business Manager Bret Reed and Superintendent Billy Joe Ferguson told board members more about the two companies.
Currently, the school uses Toshiba, but it the cost is more than the district would like to spend. Reed said Mike Boler, a representative for DEX said that by switching from Toshiba to DEX, the company would give the district money to get out of their contract with Toshiba.
Reed said the switch could save the school $8,000 in a 48-month period and any copier the district purchased, they could keep as a spare. He added that when the copier runs low on toner, the machine will automatically order new toner itself.
The board also:
Approved an increase in salary for cafeteria workers.
Approved a $378.75 donation to the district in honor of late North Carrollton Mayor Pete Misskelley, who died in September, and a $300 donation to the athletic department.
Amended the final 2017-2018 school budget and updated school board policies.
