The Vaiden Community Living Center crowned its king and queen of the Valentine’s Day ball. The event was held Thursday, Feb. 14, and members of the court celebrated with family members and friends.
Life Connections Coordinator Debra Austin said the Valentine’s Day court has been at the nursing home for 10 years.
“We do it every year at Valentine’s Day. The staff votes for the two residents who they believe should be king and queen. The pair with the most votes will win, and the pairs with next highest votes will win first, second and third place runner ups,” Austin said.
The reigning King and Queen are N.L. Purnell and Lucy Hobson. King Purnell and Queen Hobson celebrated with their families and friends with a reception with their court. Austin said for Hobson, it was her first time ever being queen.
“She’s never done anything like this before, and she really did enjoy it,” Austin said.
At the event, Hobson had the biggest smile on her face and waved to everyone, along with Purnell.
She said Purnell and Hobson will reign as king and queen until next year, when a new king and queen are chosen.
