For Vaiden, the second time is the charm. The second date of the Vaiden Heritage Festival turned out better than expected.
The festival, originally planned for Oct. 20, was postponed after it looked like the rain was not moving. After mulling it over, officials decided to have on the 27th instead.
And the second time around, it worked out even better.
Mayor Mel Hawthorne said most of the entertainment and vendors returned Saturday and the people came out.
He said The Blues Doctor couldn’t make it to the rescheduled date, but DJ “Big Daddy” Marlo Givens filed the void and didn’t miss a beat.
“They really came back out and it was more, especially the children,” Hawthorne said. With hayrides, jumpers, games, arts and crafts and more, Vaiden had something for everyone in the family.
Hawthorne said right now, it’s estimated that 800 to 1,000 people passed through Vaiden to attend the heritage festival.
