This cold weather makes me melancholy as I sit and ponder yesteryears. It makes me remember the days of cold winter that I spent with my grandmother and grandaddy in Montgomery County.
You hear people talk about living in the country, well this was LIVING in the country. The property sat right on the Montgomery County line and the Attala County line. The old barn, housing the old Guernsey milk cow, sat straddling the two county lines.

What a week!
You may be still waiting for electricity or water; I hope both are restored soon and you can begin to get things back to normal.
We had water the entire time of the ice storm, but lost electricity. Thank goodness for our fireplace and the wood that Gary and Andrew had piled up. Thank goodness for help getting it split.
Gary had a gas ring and big pot he used for boiling hot water in his chicken processing. The propane ring turned into a cooker for us. Drew came up with some good meals on it although it was hard to regulate on a low temperature.

As predicted, the ice came, in buckets, so the forecast was a reality this time. As I told you last week, we were unconcerned for our comfort as we had that wonderful, ideal Honeywell generator that would save us from the freezing and bitter cold and from darkness.
My husband and grandson, Sam, checked both ours and their generators the day before the chill became a reality so we thought we were set for whatever came our way.

Did you expect such weather in Mississippi?
I hope all of you made it through the low temperatures, icy roads, breaking ice covered branches, and falling trees unscathed!
Everyone was busy trying to keep warm, keep chickens safe from freezing, providing shelter and warmth for dogs and cats outside, and at the same time keep freezers full of food from thawing and ruining.

A plant is no better than what it grows in. Got good dirt…er, potting soil?
I had a dream the other night, vivid enough to wake me to text myself a morning reminder; however, the next morning I found this message on my phone: pit t soi imdian mods. Took a while to figure out that it was a reminder that, decades ago while working in the MSU horticulture greenhouses, we used soil partly excavated from ancient Indian mounds.

This week one of my favorite things starts, The Olympics! For the next few weeks, the world will be focused on Italy and all the athletes who train their whole lives for this one moment that comes up every four years. Now the goal is not just to show up and perform well, but what makes the Olympics stand out is it's about the country, not necessarily the individual. Yes, you want to do well and bring home a medal to put in your room, but above all you want to represent your country well on the world stage. I thought about that in our Christian life too.
