The deadline for many towns, cities and counties to decide whether to opt-in or to opt-out of the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Act has now passed.
In Montgomery County, the County Board of Supervisors and the Kilmichael Board of Aldermen both elected to opt-out of both the distribution ( or the sell) and the cultivation of medical marijuana.
However, if people would like to purchase medical marijuana in Montgomery County, there are two municipalities who chose to do so and one municipality that has also elected for the cultivation of medical marijuana.
The City of Winona chose to opt-in to dispenseries and to opt-out of cultivation and the Town of Duck Hill has elected to opt-in automatically, because the deadline to decide is days before the board will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, May 9.
In Carroll County, the County Board of Supervisors, the Vaiden Board of Aldermen and the Carrollton Board of Aldermen have all elected to opt-out of the distribution and the cultivation of the product. However, the town of North Carrollton’s Board of Aldermen have elected to opt-in to dispenseries and to opt-out of cultivation.
According to the Mississippi Department of Revenue’s website, the Alcohol and Beverage Control’s Permit Department will begin accepting license applications on July 1 and will begin issuing licenses to all qualified applicants within 30 days of receiving a completed application including all required information and documents.
The website also stated that those who plan to apply for a license, must do so through DOR for dispensaries through the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Program and should register with the Secretary of State.
