The Winona High School girls and boys basketball teams could only pick up one win apiece in three games played last week.
Both teams beat Ethel High School on Dec. 11 in games played at J.J. Knox Gymnasium. The Lady Tigers gained a 55-41 come-from-behind win as they rallied from a 19-15 deficit after the first quarter. They went in front 28-25 at the half and led 42-32 after the third period.
Markeshia Burnett led the way with 19 points, and Ariella Jones had 18 points. Tamari Ford and Azaria Small had seven points each.
In the boys game, the Tigers cruised to a 70-29 victory as Chance Robinson led a balanced attack with 11 points. K.D. Topps had nine points, and Kentrell Crawford and Tristin Purnell had eight points each. Jaidan Greenleaf finished with seven points.
Winona led 14-6 after one, 36-18 at the half and 57-28 after the third.
In games from Dec. 12 at Coffeeville High School, the Lady Tigers fell 34-28 in overtime. Winona led 10-2 after one and 19-6 at the half, but the Lady Pirates had scoring advantages of 11-4 in the third and 9-3 in the fourth to force the extra period.
Jones had 12 points, and Burnett eight for WHS. Makhalah Coker chipped in five points.
In the boys game, Coffeeville claimed a 72-46 win as it led 13-7 after the first, 31-19 at the half and 54-36 after the third frame.
Danarius Robinson led Winona with 15 points, and Purnell had 11 points. Robinson tallied nine points.
Winona played at Grenada on Dec. 14. The Lady Tigers (5-6) fell 57-24 as they trailed 31-15 at the half to the Lady Chargers. Jones had 11 points, and Burnett eight for Winona.
In the boys game, Grenada posted a 71-56 win as it led 30-26 at the half and 59-40 after the third. Tyler Lockhart had 14 points, and Greenleaf and Purnell chipped in 11 points each for the Tigers (3-8).
Winona, which hosted Nanih Waiya Tuesday, plays at Water Valley Thursday.
