Along with Winona City Hall last week, two other burglaries were reported before Entergy restored power to the city.
Employees at the Hayes Creek Water Association on Summit Street reported on March 30 the water department building had been broken into, and about $30 was taken, Officer Mike Herring said.
Someone had “pilfered” through all of the drawers in the building at the time power was out throughout Winona, he said.
“They came into work Wednesday [and found] somebody had thrown a brick through the window – the front window – and opened it up,” said Herring. “They rambled through drawers and opened stuff up.”
Sometime last week, someone broke into a home at Silver and Academy streets after the homeowner went to Memphis to avoid the conditions of the power outage in Winona, according to Herring.
The assailant went through drawers without taking anything, he said.
“They threw a brick through the washroom window, opened it and opened the back door,” said Herring, adding the thief went through drawers and did not pour anything out or mess up the home in anyway. “I don’t know what they were looking for, but they didn’t mess that house up at all. All they did was pull some drawers out.”
Both burglaries remain under investigation, and no suspects have been identified.
