The Winona High School boys got a much-needed win as the Tigers beat visiting Eupora High School 62-56 last Friday night.
Winona only led 10-8 after the first period but a 23-12 run in the second gave the Tigers a 33-20 lead at the half. Eupora outscored Winona 36-29 in the second half.
Kam’ron Robinson led the Tigers (6-12) with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. Fred Clark tacked on 12 points and four boards, and Chase Robinson had 10 points, 15 rebounds and five assists.
Darius Robinson tallied nine points and five assists, and Tristin Purnell had five points and three assists.
In the girls’ game, Eupora eked out a 63-63 win despite a 29-19 run by the Lady Tigers in the fourth period.
Eupora led 16-12 after one, 28-22 at the half and 44-33 after the third frame.
Winona (7-11) was led by Jayla Campbell’s 43 points (20 in the fourth). Ta’nhya Knight had 10 points, and Amber Stewart tallied six points.
In games from last Tuesday, the Lady Tigers defeated Humphreys County 57-38. Winona (1-4 in Region 3-3A) led 15-6 after one, 31-17 at the half and 48-27 after the third.
Campbell led the way with 35 points, and Knight finished with 18.
In the boys’ game, the Cowboys won 64-46 as they led 23-13 after one, 33-29 at the half and 51-36 after the third.
Purnell led the Tigers (1-4 in district) with 14 points, three rebounds and two steals. Richardson had eight points, seven rebounds and three assists, and Clark had seven points and five rebounds. Robinson had five points and three assists.
Winona, which hosted Water Valley Tuesday, visits Ruleville Friday.

The Lady Jags and Jaguars both dropped two Region 4-2A games each last week.
Last Friday, both teams lost to Bruce. No other details were made available.
The Lady Jags are 3-18 overall and 1-2 in district. The Jaguars are 4-14 and 1-2.
In games from last Tuesday at Calhoun City, the girls lost 60-20 as Aaniyah Williams scored 18.
The Jags fell 79-58 to the Wildcats, who led 16-13 after one, 46-23 at the half and 64-35 after the third.
Keiyhaun Wilks led the Jaguars with 12 points. Deshaun Hemingway and Rodney Catron finished with 10 each. Nehemiah Williams had eight points.
