The Winona Christian baseball team got its first win of the season last week.
The Stars beat North Sunflower 11-1 on Monday and then lost 12-2 to Kirk in the second game of a doubleheader.
Winona Christian will return to play on Tuesday as they host Central Holmes on Tuesday and then travel to Lexington to take on the Trojans in a doubleheader on Friday.
Winona Christian 11, North Sunflower 1
The Stars used a big second inning to take a run-rule win over the Rebels on Monday.
North Sunflower scored one in the first for an early lead but Winona Christian then scored eight in the second to take the lead. Winona added two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Winona Christian had 15 hits in the contest. Bryce Harville led Winona Christian at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Collin Parkinson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Jake Ware was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Sam Thompson and Zack Bledsoe each doubled and drove in two runs while Brannon Hill was 2-for-4 with a triple.
Trace Carpenter got the start and pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out nine to get the win. Parkinson pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up one run on one while Hunter Land finished by pitching the last inning and striking out two.
Kirk 12, Winona Christian 2
The Raiders used a big third inning to take a big 10-run win over the Stars on Monday in the second game of a doubleheader.
Winona scored one in the top of the first and third and led 2-0 before Kirk exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the third. Kirk added another in the bottom of the fourth to take the win.
Winona outhit Kirk 4-3 in the contest, but the Stars committed five errors and issued seven walks. Jake Ware was 2-for-3 with a double while Brannon Hill doubled and walked twice. Sam Thompson also singled and scored a run.
Brannon Hill started on the mound and pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up nine unearned runs on one hit and five walks while striking out three. Tyler Schraenkler pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up three unearned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two.
