Winona had six cross country runners – four girls and two boys – compete at the French Camp Classic, and all six turned in a personal best time.
For the boys, Carson Holly covered the 5,000 meter course in 17:57.14 to finish eighth. All seven runners ahead of him were from defending 5A state champion Saltillo or defending 1A champion Tupelo. It was the first time he ran under 18 minutes and he bettered his time at last year's 3A state meet where he finished eighth by more than a minute.
Noah Durham was 22nd with a time of 19:50.05.
Winona had three girls finish together in 28th, 29th and 30th place. Murry Catherine Alderman had a time of 27:47,77, Kayla Windham 28:21.56 and Bailey Holly 28:26.03. Alderman was under 28 minutes for the first time. Haylan White was 66th place with a time of 35:56.02.
Winona competed in the MHSAA middle school meet Wednesday at Choctaw Trails in Jackson. The Tigers will host a district meet Oct. 29 and will compete in the state meet Nov. 4 at Choctaw Trails.
