The Winona Christian Stars needed a two-game sweep of Oak Hill to put themselves in position to make the Class AA playoffs.
That’s exactly what the Stars did as they beat Oak Hill 7-4 on Friday and then finished off the Raiders with an 8-3 win on Monday.
Winona will finish up the regular season this week as they play at Carroll on Tuesday. A win by the Stars would secure a playoff berth.
WCS 7, Oak Hill 4
The Stars jumped out to a 7-0 win and held on to take a three-run win over the Raiders on Friday.
Winona scored two in the first, one in the fourth and four in the fifth while Oak Hill scored two in the sixth and seventh innings.
Winona outhit Oak Hill 8-1 in the contest as John White was 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Stars. Dalton Wiggins singled and had three RBIS while Blake Marlow, Colby Marlow and Corley Goss each singled and scored a run. Hayden Self singled and walked and also scored two runs. Reed Roberts also had two stolen bases.
Latham Hill got the start for Winona and pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on one hit and two walks while striking out 10. Cade Marlow pitched 2/3 of an inning while Blake Marlow pitched the last inning and picked up the save.
WCS 8, Oak Hill 3
The Stars used a seven-run second inning and cruised to a five-run win over the Raiders on Monday.
After scoring seven in the second, Oak Hill had two in the fifth and one in the seventh. Winona scored one in the sixth to finish out their scoring.
The Stars outhit the Raiders 9-3 in the contest. John White led the Stars at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Reed Roberts was 2-for-4 and scored a run while Dalton Wiggins doubled and scored a run. Blake Marlow had a home run and drove in four runs for the Stars. Latham Hill and Corley Goss also singled and scored a run.
Blake Marlow started on the mound for the Stars and pitched 6 2/3 innings and gave up three runs, only one earned, on three hits and three walks while striking out six. Cade Marlow got the last out, striking out the last batter on three pitches.
