The Winona Christian Stars managed to squeeze in a pair of games over the spring break, splitting a pair of contests in the Canton Tournament.
The Stars were shut out by Texas power Lutheran South Academy 8-0 and then turned around and beat host Canton 10-5 to finish out the day.
Winona Christian, now 6-3 on the season, will return to action this week as they host Jackson Victors on Monday. The Stars then get back to district play as they host Marshall in a key district contest on Tuesday and will travel to the Patriots on Friday.
WCS 10, Canton Academy 5
The Stars scored nine runs in the last two innings to take a five-run win over the Panthers on Wednesday.
Canton scratched first with one in the third and Winona then scored one in the fifth to tie the score. The Stars then scored five in the sixth and four in the seventh while Canton scored three in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Canton outhit Winona 8-5 but the Panthers committed six errors. Blake Marlow was 2-for-2 and walked twice while Reed Roberts doubled, scored two runs and walked twice. Dalton Wiggins singled and drove in two runs while Choyce Diffey and Cade Marlow each scored two runs.
Latham Hill got the start on the mound and picked up the win as he gave up one run on four hits and three walks while striking out seven. Cade Marlow pitched one inning and gave up four runs on four hits and three walks while John White pitched the final inning and got three outs in 11 pitches and struck out one.
Lutheran S. Academy 8, WCS 0
The Stars were shut out by a Texas powerhouse on Wednesday in the Canton Tournament held at Smith-Wills Stadium.
Lutheran scored single runs in the first, second and third and then finished off the game with five runs in the fifth.
Winona only had two hits in the game as Holland Ingram and Cade Marlow each had singles.
Blake Marlow got the start and was solid on the mound, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Deuce Irwin pitched an inning and gave up five runs on four hits and three walks.
