The Winona Christian Stars won two of three contests last week as they get ready to dive into district play.
After a 15-4 loss to Ethel, the Stars beat Jackson Victors 5-1 and Kirk 12-6.
Winona was scheduled to play three games this week as the Stars were set to host Jackson Victors on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Stars were scheduled to play at East Rankin at 2 p.m. and at Canton at 5 p.m.
Winona Christian 5, Jackson Victors 1
The Stars allowed just three hits as they took a four-run win over the Victors on Thursday.
Each team scored a run in the third inning before Winona scored three runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to take the win.
Winona had four hits in the contest as Latham Hill provided the big blow with a three-run home run in the fifth. Reed Roberts had a double and drove in two runs while Choyce Diffey and Deuce Irwin each singled and scored a run.
Latham Hill pitched three innings and gave up one unearned run on two hits and one walk while striking out nine. Blake Marlow pitched four innings and gave up one hit and two walks while striking out seven.
Winona Christian 12, Kirk Academy 6
The Stars doubled up the Raiders to take a six-run win on Friday.
Winona scored two in the first and single runs in the second and third to take a 4-1 lead. Kirk scored two in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3. Winona then put the game away with one in the fifth, three in the sixth and four in the seventh.
Winona outhit Kirk 13-7 with three batters with three hits each. Choyce Diffey was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Blake Marlow was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Colby Marlow was 3-for-5 with two RBIs while Holland Ingram singled, walked three times and scored twice. Latham Hill doubles and scored two runs while Dalton Wiggins singled and drove in two runs. Conner Nail also scored twice.
John White pitched four innings and gave up three unearned runs on three hits while striking out three. Deuce Irwin pitched three innings and gave up three unearned runs on four hits and six walks.
Ethel 15, Winona Christian 4
The Tigers scored seven runs in the last two innings to take an 11-run win over the Stars on Tuesday.
Ethel scored three in the first and third, two in the fourth and sixth and five in the seventh. Winona scored three in the third and one in the fifth.
Winona had five hits as Reed Roberts went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Blake Marlow had an RBI single while Choyce Diffey singled and scored.
Reed Roberts pitched two innings and gave up three runs on one hit and two walks. Deuce Irwin pitched one inning and gave up three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two. Cade Marlow pitched two innings and gave up two runs on one hit and struck out two. Choyce Diffey pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on one hit and four walks while striking out two while Steel Mims pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up two runs on two hits and two walks.
