The Winona Christian Stars picked up a win on the hardwood last week, beating Kemper Academy 61-33 after dropping a 53-29 decision to Winston Academy.
Meanwhile, the Lady Stars are 8-1 on the year after beating Kemper 45-15. They suffered their first loss to Winston in a 35-26 setback.
“We are 8-1 on the year, and I’m fairly pleased,” WCS girls Coach Lee Hazlewood said. “We lost our leading scorer from last year, and I didn’t know where our points were going to come from. We have been scoring by committee. It’s been somebody different every night. We are getting multiple kids scoring every night. They are sharing the ball and finding the open player. I have been pleased with the intensity. We are playing defense and doing a good job with our press. I think the biggest thing is you have to defend all five positions on the floor.”
Winona Christian will return from the Thanksgiving holidays and host Hebron on Monday, Nov. 26 and Nanih Waiya on Tuesday, Nov. 27. The Stars will travel to Tri-County on Thursday, Nov. 29.
