Marshall Academy took a one-run win over Winona Christian on Tuesday. The Stars returned the favor on Friday.
Winona Christian and Marshall Academy split a pair of games this past week as the Patriots won 5-4 on Tuesday while the Stars won 4-3 on Friday.
Winona was scheduled to play in the Vicksburg Tournament on Monday and Tuesday. Monday’s games were against Yazoo City and Riverside. Tuesday’s scheduled game was against East Rankin.
Marshall 5, Winona Christian 4
The Stars dropped a one-run contest to the Patriots after leading early on Tuesday.
Winona jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before Marshall scored one the third, fourth and fifth innings to tie the score. Marshall then scored two in the sixth to go up 5-3. Winona added another run in the seventh for the final margin.
Winona outhit Marshall 9-5 in the contest but committed four errors and issued five walks.
Choyce Diffey was 2-for-2 with a home run, double, two walks and two RBIs. Latham Hill was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored while Reed Roberts was 2-for-4 with a double. Hayden Self was hit by a pitch twice and had two stolen bases.
Diffey got the start and pitched three innings, giving up one run on one hit while striking out six. Roberts pitched the final three innings and gave up four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three.
Winona Christian 4, Marshall 3
The Stars scored first and held on in a one-run win over the Patriots on Friday.
The Stars scored two runs in the first while Marshall tied the game with one in the second and one in the top of the fifth. The Stars answers with one n the fifth and one in the sixth to go up 4-2 going into the seventh. The Patriots scored one in the seventh but the Stars held on to take the win.
Marshall outhit Winona 6-3 in the contest. Choyce Diffey hit a solo home run while Dalton Wiggins singled, drove in a run and walked twice. Jon White singled and scored twice and had a stolen base.
Latham Hill started and pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight. Connor Nail pitched the last two innings and gave up one run on two hits and two walks.
