The Carroll Academy Rebels started District 1-AA play last week.
The Rebels were swept by Central Holmes last week, falling 18-2 and 11-1 in their only action of the week.
Carroll was scheduled to travel to Lee on Monday and host Calhoun on Saturday. On Monday, March 18, the Rebels are slated to host Greenville St. Joe and will play at Pillow on Tuesday. They will end the week on Thursday as they host Benton.
Central Holmes 18, Carroll Academy 2
The Trojans fell behind early but used some big innings to take a five-inning, run-rule victory over the Rebels to open district play on Tuesday.
Carroll led 1-0 at the end of the first before Central Holmes scored nine in the third inning. The Trojans added six in the fourth and three in the fifth. Carroll added one more run in the third.
Gavin Wiltshire had two hits and scored both runs while Lofton Holly had Carroll’s other hit.
Central Holmes had 14 hits in the contest as Nathan Taylor went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, three RBIs and two stolen bases.
Central Holmes 11, Carroll 1
The Trojans struck early and scored in every inning as they took a five-inning, run-rule win over the Rebels on Thursday.
Central Holmes scored six in the first with single runs in the second, third and fifth inning and two in the fourth. Carroll scored one in the fourth.
Central Holmes had six hits and took advantage of five errors and three walks.
Wes Hudson was solid on the mound for Central Holmes as he pitched all five innings, giving up one run on two hits and three walks while striking out six.
Logan Taylor had a single while Gavin Wiltshire scored the Rebels’ only run. Brett Harper also had a single.
Dane Greenlee pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up just four earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four and giving up just four earned runs. Drew Thomas pitched the final inning and gave up one run on one hit.
