The Winona Christian boys won two out of three basketball contests last week, including a big district win over Indianola.
The Stars beat Lee (Ark.) 73-50 and Indianola 61-42 but lost a non-district game to Canton 52-49.
The Lady Stars lost two out of three games as they beat Canton 58-32. They lost a pair of six-point games as they fell 61-55 to Lee and 26-20 to Indianola.
Winona was scheduled to return to play on Tuesday as they host Central Holmes in a key district contest. On Thursday, Winona Christian will travel to Columbus Christian and will then host Oak Hill on Friday to round out the week.
Canton boys 52, Winona Christian 49
The Stars led early but couldn’t hold onto the lead as the Panthers came back to take a three-point win.
Winona led 13-7 at the end of the first and 28-24 at the half. Canton came back in the third and outscored Winona 11-7 to tie the game up at 35-35. Canton finished off the comeback in the fourth, outscoring Winona 17-14 to take the win.
Choyce Diffey led Winona with 14 points while Reed Roberts had 12. Latham Hill had 11 points and Dalton Wiggins added eight.
Winona Christian girls 58, Canton 32
The Lady Stars started strong and cruised to a 26-point win over the Lady Panthers.
Winona jumped out to a 14-1 lead and led 26-8 at the half. The Lady Stars continued to extend their lead in the second half, outscoring Canton 16-14 in the third and 16-10 in the fourth.
Bella Roberts had 25 points to lead the Lady Stars while Audrey Eldridge had 14 points and Sara Burden White added eight points.
Winona Christian boys 73, Lee (Ark.) 50
The Stars outscored Lee in three of the four periods and cruised to a 23-point win on Saturday.
Winona jumped out to a 19-7 lead in the first period and led 41-32 at the half. Winona extended its lead in the second half as the Stars outscored Lee 12-7 in the first and 20-11 in the fourth.
Winona put four players in double digits as Latham Hill led the Stars with 21 points. Choyce Diffey had 16 points while Reed Roberts had 14 points. Dalton Wiggins also added 10 points.
Lee (Ark.) girls 61, Winona Christian 55
The Lady Stars fell behind early and couldn’t finish a second half comeback as they fell to Lee by six points on Saturday.
Lee led 15-10 in the first and 31-21 at the half. The Lady Stars mounted a comeback in the second period as they outscored Lee 20-18 in the third and 14-12 in the fourth but fell short of the win.
Audrey Eldridge had a big night with 28 points and was 12-of-19 from the free-throw line. Belle Roberts had 11 points while Sara Burden White added eight points.
Winona Christian boys 61, Indianola 42
The Stars used a big second half to pull away and beat the Colonels by 19 points.
Winona Christian led 11-9 at the end of the first and 24-22 at the half. The Stars pulled away in the third as they outscored the Colonels 20-9 to take a 44-31 lead into the fourth. Winona finished off Indianola with a 17-11 fourth period.
Reed Roberts led Winona with 17 points while Jake Ware had 14 points. Latham Hill had 12 points and Choyce Diffey added 11 points.
Indianola girls 26, Winona Christian 20
The Lady Stars struggled in the scoring column and suffered a six-point loss to the Lady Colonels in district play.
Indianola led 11-6 at the end of the first and 15-8 at the half. Indianola outscored Winona 8-3 in the third to lead 23-11 going to the fourth. Winona outscored Indianola 9-3 in the fourth but fell six points shorts.
Sara Burden White led Winona with seven points while Oliva Brooks had six points and Bella Roberts added five.
