The Winona Christian basketball teams split a pair of games last week in district play.
Both WCS teams swept Indianola on Tuesday as the Lady Stars won 42-37 and the Stars took a 60-49 win. On Friday, Winona traveled to West Point and was swept by Oak Hill as the Lady Stars lost 56-53 in overtime and the Stars fell 49-33.
Winona Christian has a busy week with three games. They were scheduled to go to Indianola on Tuesday in district play and host Canton on Thursday in a non-district contest. On Saturday, Winona will travel to Lee Academy (Ark.) in another non-district contest.
Winona Christian girls 42, Indianola 37
The Lady Stars got 20 points from Bella Roberts and took a tight five-point district win over the Lady Colonels.
Winona led 13-12 at the end of the first but trailed 20-19 at the half. Winona pulled away in the third as they outscored Indianola 15-11 in the third and 8-6 in the fourth.
Roberts led WCS with 20 points while Sara Beth Burden had eight points.
Winona Christian boys 60, Indianola 49
The Stars used a big second half and pulled away to take an 11-point win over the Colonels.
Winona led 12-10 at the end of the first but trailed 23-22 at the half. The Stars then outscored the Colonels 18-13 in the third and 20-13 in the fourth to take the win.
Choyce Diffey led Winona with 15 points while Jake Ware had 13 points. Latham Hill had 10 points while Reed Roberts had eight and Hayden Self added seven points.
Oak Hill girls 56, Winona Christian 53
The Lady Raiders needed overtime to take a three-point win over the Lady Stars in a tight district contest on Friday.
Winona led 11-9 at the end of the first before Oak Hill outscored the Lady Stars 18-11 to take a 27-22 lead at the half. After each team scored eight points in the third, Winona Christian outscored Oak Hill 17-11 to send the game into overtime, tied at 49-49. Oak Hill used a 7-4 advantage in the overtime period to take the win.
Bella Roberts led WCS with 18 points while Sara Beth Burden had 12 points.
Oak Hill boys 49, Winona Christian 33
The Raiders outscored the Stars in every period and took a 16-point win in district play.
Oak Hill led 13-9 at the end of the first and 24-19 at the half. Oak Hill continued to build on its lead in the second half, outscoring Winona 15-9 in the third and 10-5 in the fourth.
Choyce Diffey led Winona with 15 points while Jake Ware and Reed Roberts each had six points apiece.
