Winona Christian’s Reed Roberts recently added another accomplishment to an already impressive high school athletics resume.
Roberts recently played in the MAIS Class 3A-5A All-Star Basketball game. Roberts was also chosen to play the MAIS All-star football game as well for the Stars.
Winona Christian coach Keith Ware said Roberts played well in the contest.
“I thought he had a good game,” Ware said. “He only scored one point but had four out of five assists and several steals. He had several rebounds and played some substantial minutes. I thought he represented the school well.”
Ware said it was with mixed emotions that he watched Roberts end his basketball career.
“Reed is just a great kid, a team player and the type of kid that wants to win,” Ware said. “He did whatever I asked him to do. Probably one of the hardest things coaching at a small school is you get to know these kids so well. I was with them in football and helped with baseball. I really got close to this group of seniors. They will be missed in the athletic sense but from the school aspect as well. They are kids that their parents should be proud of.”
Ware said Roberts, along with Latham Hill and Choyce Diffey made a significant impact on Winona Christian.
“Reed, Latham Hill and Choyce Diffey were all worthy of playing in the all-star game,” Ware said. “They were all really close. As a team, we were pretty much at the bottom of the row when I came back and this year, we were really competitive. We finished .500 and that was a major accomplishment. We played Carroll close every time we played and they were second in the state and made it to Overall.”
Ware said he saw a significant different in Roberts in his senior year.
“When he went off to the military last summer, he came back a completely different kid,” Ware said. “I think he saw the work from a different aspect. I think he had a different view of team sports. He became a team leader for us and was well liked among the players.”
