Winona had one of its best offensive games of the season while clinching a spot in the MHSAA 3A playoffs with a 15-3 victory over Forest. The Tigers could finish second, third or fourth in Region 5-3A, depending on the result of a game with Choctaw Central that was played Tuesday.
Mitch Stewart led the offense with two singles, a double and four RBIs, and he had plenty of help. J.J. Looney singled, tripled and drove in three runs, Dre Bays had three hits and an RBI, Blake Cooper singled, doubled and scored three times and Garrett Ables had a double and three RBIs.
Jon Reuben Chesteen allowed only five hits and fanned five.
In an earlier 5-3A game, the Tigers lost to Morton 16-2. Nick Murphy singled and drove in both Winona runs and Chesteen had a double.
The playoffs are scheduled to begin Friday. Winona will play a team from 6-3A.
