After splitting their season series with Marshall Academy and a 10-6 game 1 loss to Central Holmes, the Winona Christian Stars were backed into a corner.
The Stars responded with a 5-4 win to hand Central Holmes its first loss of the season and keep alive their playoff hopes.
Winona will return to play this week as they host Pillow on Monday before beginning a two-game series with Carroll. The Stars will host Carroll on Tuesday and travel to Carroll on Friday.
Central Holmes 10, Winona Christian 6
The Trojans scored eight runs in the second inning and took a four-run win over the Stars on Thursday.
Winona scored three in the first and one in the second and led 4-0 before Central Holmes scored eight in the bottom of the second to lead 8-4. Winona added single runs in the third and seventh while Central Holmes added two runs in the fifth.
Winona outhit Central Holmes 8-6 in the contest but the Trojans took advantage of three errors and eight walks to take the win.
Colby Marlow led the Stars at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Reed Roberts doubled, scored a run and had an RBI. Blake Marlow singled, had two walks and scored two runs. Choyce Diffey and Latham Hill also singled and scored a run.
Blake Marlow pitched four innings and gave up eight runs, only two earned, on one hit and seven walks while striking out nine.
Winona Christian 5, Central Holmes 4
The Stars took an early lead and held on to take a one-run win over the Trojans on Friday.
Winona Christian scored four in the second and one in the third while Central Holmes scored one in the fourth and three in the fifth.
The Trojans had six hits but committed three errors while the Stars also had six hits.
Reed Roberts had a double and had an RBI while Blake Marlow doubled and scored a run. Corley Goss singled, stole two bases and scored two runs while Dalton Wiggins was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Latham Hill got the start on the mound and pitched all seven innings and gave up four runs, only one earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out seven.
