Carroll Academy’s Reese Fulton showed that he certainly belonged in the MAIS Class 3A-5A boys all-star basketball game.
Fulton was among 24 players chosen for the team and played on the blue team, which took a 94-73 win in the contest.
Despite not starting in the game, Fulton had a solid game with 12 points and nine rebounds.
“He played really well,” Carroll coach Tommy Acy said. “The all-star games is usually a lot faster than the pace that we play and I thought he played really fast. He played his type of basketball. He played like it was his last game and had fun. I was proud of the way he played.”
Acy said Fulton showed his versatility on the floor against players from larger schools.
“He made a couple of threes and shot the ball well,” Acy said. “And he rebounded the ball well, which is what he does well. Even though he wasn’t the tallest player on the floor, he rebounded the ball well. I thought he competed well and it looked like he belonged.”
Acy said he hopes Fulton’s performance in the all-star game will eventually lead to an opportunity to play basketball in college.
“Actually, I thought he showed a lot more speed than he showed during the season,” Acy said. “He showed that he can run and gun with anybody. I think once we get past all of this craziness, he will get some calls. Belhaven has offered him in football and I told him if that’s all he gets offered, he should consider taking it. I told him any time you get a chance to play at the next level, you save your parents some money. If you get a chance to go to school for free and help your parents, you should do that.”
Fulton also played in the MAIS All-Star football game as well, helping the Rebels to a 10-3 record. All three of those losses were by two points, including a 20-18 loss to eventual state champion Madison St. Joseph.
