The Carroll Academy baseball team squeezed in a game last week and dropped a 7-2 decision to Lee Academy.
The Rebels were scheduled to host Delta Academy on Tuesday but it was postponed because of the boys basketball team playing in the Overall Tournament at Mississippi College in Clinton. The Rebels have a Thursday game at Benton Academy and will try to make up the Delta game later this week. The Rebels then open district play next Tuesday as they host Central Holmes in a doubleheader.
The Colts jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held on to take a five-run win over the Rebels in the season opener for both teams on Monday.
Lee scored five in the first and one in the sixth. Carroll scored its two runs in the sixth inning.
Lee outhit Carroll 9-3 in the contest. Lofton Holley tripled, scored a run and drove in a run for the Rebels while Braxton York and Corbin Walker also had singles for the Rebels. Maddox Carpenter scored Carroll’s other run while James Neill had an RBI.
Lofton Holly started but only lasted 2/3 of an inning, giving up five runs on four hits and two walks. Drew Thomas pitched in relief and gave up two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
“I thought we saw some good things,” Milton said. “Probably the biggest thing is the kids didn’t quit after we fell behind early. They just didn’t fall to pieces and kept on playing baseball. After that first inning, it was a 2-2 game and I can live with that. We only committed three errors only walked three batters and I can live with that. If we will keep on doing those things, I think we will be fine.”
