The Winona Christian softball team had a little bit of everything last week.
They had some blowout wins, some blowout losses, some close wins, and some close losses.
The Lady Stars started the week off with a 16-0 division win over Oak Hill and then dropped a 14-2 loss to Class AAAA Magnolia Heights.
Then on Saturday, the Lady Stars lost 8-7 to Central Hinds before hammering St. Aloysius 21-0. They finished the day off with 7-5 comeback win over Briarfield (La.) Academy.
The Lady Stars just have one game on tap for this week, a Tuesday clash with rival Carroll.
Winona Christian 16, Oak Hill 0
The Lady Stars needed just three and a half innings to dispose of Oak Hill last Monday.
Winona scored two in the first, eight in the second and six in the fourth. The Lady Stars had 12 hits in the contest as Harlee Whitten was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and four RBIs. Bella Roberts was 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs scored and drove in four runs as well. Elise Diffey and Jada Mims were each 2-for-2 and scored three runs while Shelby Bowering was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.
Ashley Parkinson had a single and drove in two runs while Madyson Leach singled, scored and drove in a run.
Sara Rawles got the start and pitched four shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks while striking out four.
Magnolia Heights 14, Winona Christian 2
Magnolia Heights scored in every inning but one and put the game away with a six-run seventh inning.
Winona scored one in the first and fourth and two in the second, third and sixth innings. They added six in the seventh while Winona scored its two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Jada Mims had a double and scored while Elise Diffey walked and scored. Harlee Whitten had a double and drove in one run. Mckinley Ingram drove in Winona’s other run.
Central Hinds 8, Winona Christian 7
In a time-limit contest, Central Hinds scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take the win on Saturday.
Winona jumped out to a big lead with one in the first and six in the second. But Central Hinds battled back and scored two in the first, three in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Winona scattered out seven hits with no multiple hitters. Shelby Bowering had a single and drove in two runs while Jada Mims was credited with two RBIs. Olivia Dendy also had two stolen bases. Elise Diffey, Haley Evans and Ashleigh Parkinson each had RBI singles..
Winona Christian 21, St. Aloysius 1
The Lady Stars scored early and often as they hammered St. Aloysius on Saturday.
Winona scored 13 in the first inning, three in the second and five in the third as they collected 15 hits. Jada Mims was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Shelby Bowering was 2-for-4 with four runs scored while Bella Roberts was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Haley Evans was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Caylon Marlow was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Olivia Dendy had a double with two runs scored and two RBIs while Kaylah Brooke Varnes had a single and two RBIs. Elise Diffy had two RBIs while Alana Garrett walked twice and scored three times.
Allie Rawles pitched two innings and gave one run on three hits. Olivia Dendy pitched the final inning and struck out all three batters she faced.
Winona Christian 7, Briarfield 5
Winona Christian scored seven runs in the fourth inning and held on for a two-run win on Saturday.
Briarfield took the early lead with two runs in the first and three in the third before Winona responded with seven in the fourth. The Lady Stars spread out 11 hits in the lineup as Madyson Leach and Haley Evans were each 2-for-2 with an RBI. Jada Mims had a double and drove in three runs. Shelby Bowering, Olivia Dendy, Elise Diffey and Mckinley Ingram each singled and scored.
Sara Rawles pitched 3 1/3 innings and picked up the win in the time-limit contest. She gave up five runs on six hits and two walks.
