The Lady Jaguars of J.Z. George put up a fight as they dropped a 14-13 decision at Charleston High School on March 7.
The Lady Jaguars, who are 2-3 after also losing 19-0 to Winona High School on March 5, gave up two runs to the Lady Tigers in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Charleston scored four runs each in the first and fifth frames, three in the second and one in the fourth. J.Z. George tallied two runs each in the second, third and fourth innings, six in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Laney Clunan (1-3) suffered the loss in the circle. She went all seven innings, allowing 16 hits, walking four and striking out two.
Olivia Carpenter led the offense for J.Z. George with three singles, three runs scored and an RBI. Makayla Vest had a home run, single, four RBIs and scored two runs. Tamya Robinson had a single and scored one run.
Against Winona, Clunan worked two innings, surrendering all 19 runs on 12 hits, walking 10 and fanning one. Vest had the lone base hit for the Lady Jags.
J.Z. George returns March 18 at Greenwood High School. The Lady Jags host Charleston on March 21 and French Camp on March 22.
Baseball
The J.Z. George baseball team has not hit the field for a game since March 2 when it played twice in the Winona High Tournament.
The Jaguars (0-2) have had their last three scheduled games rained out. They are slated to host McAdams for a doubleheader on March 18.
On March 19, the Jaguars go to Ruleville and visit Yazoo County on March 20. They host Ethel High School on March 21.
