The Lady Jaguars' fast-pitch softball team has got off to a good start as they are 2-1 through their first three games of the season.
Four games have been postponed because of the weather. They were slated to play host to Winona Tuesday. Thursday, the Lady Jags go to Charleston, and they entertain Aberdeen Friday, weather permitting.
The Lady Jaguars took a pair of games from Holmes County Central on Feb. 26. They won the first game 15-3 as junior Tyeshia Grant (1-0) got the win in the circle. She went the first two innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out four and walking three. Junior Laney Clunan went the next three innings, allowing two hits, walking four and fanning two.
The Lady Jags scored eight runs in the first, one in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth.
Makayla Vest had a single and double, scored a run and drove in one run. Olivia Carpenter had two singles and scored two runs, and Tashanda Fleming had a single, double, scored two runs and one RBI. Jasmine Newman had a single and scored three runs.
In the second game, J.Z. George came out on top 10-1 as Clunan (1-0) got the win. She went all three innings, yielding one run on two hits, walking six and fanning eight.
Carpenter had three singles, scored two runs and drove in one to lead the offense. Grant, Clunan, Fleming and Lauren Nester had a single apiece, while Clunan, Fleming and Nester had an RBI each. Grant also scored three times.
The Lady Jags dropped a 19-5 decision to Riverside last Friday. Clunan (1-1) suffered the loss as she allowed all 19 runs on 13 hits, walking seven, hitting three batters and fanning one.
Carpenter had a double, and Grant and Clunan had a base hit each. Grant also scored two runs, and Carpenter, Newman and Clunan scored one run each.
