A big night by Olivia Carpenter led the J.Z. George softball team to its first win of the season, a 21-9 victory over Amanda Elzy Monday.
Carpenter went four for four with two singles, a three-run double, and a grand slam.
Carpenter's double in the third put J.Z. George ahead 10-9 and the Lady Jafuars added 11 runs in the fourth that featured two walks to Zamya Fleming, one base on balls each to Makenzie Summers, Kelcia Stancil and Dentiny Clardy and Carpenter's slam.
Jessia Liddell had two hits. Tyeshia Grant was the winning pitcher, with relief help from Laney Clunan, who struck out two in one inning.
J.Z. George concludes the season with home games Friday against Winona at 5 p.m. and next Tuesday against French Camp.
Jaguars
Robert Clunan had two singles and a double and Robert Pridgen a single and a double for J.Z. George against Charleston Monday, but that wasn't enough. The Jaguars were defeated 13-3.
J.Z. George had a doubleheader with Ruleville Central Tuesday and plays at Humphreys County Friday.
