The J.Z. George boys and girls basketball teams began Region 3-3A play with losses to Amanda Elzy.
The Jaguars were defeated 72-65 in a game that was close most of the way. J.Z. George led 36-35 at the half. Amanda Elzy went ahead 42-39 after three quarters, then outscored the Jaguars 20-16 over the final eight minutes for the victory.
Ceasa Glenn and Malik Branch scored 15 points each for J.Z. George. Reggie Miller had 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Amanda Elzy.
The Jaguars are 6-9 overall and the Panthers 8-10.
The Lady Jaguars were defeated 45-22. Tashanda Fleming scored 16 points, but the rest of the team managed only 6 points.
J.Z. George is 2-14 and Amanda Elzy 6-11.
The Jaguars and Lady Jaguars have road games Friday at Charleston and Monday at McAdams.
