The J.Z. George boys basketball team picked up two wins on the hardcourt last week to improve to 2-4 on the young season under first-year coach LeQuell Allen.
The Jaguars went 1-1 during its tournament, which ran from Thursday through Saturday. There were only three teams— Kosciusko, Noxapater and J.Z. George — entered in the tournament. Kosciusko and Noxapater played Thursday night, and Kosciusko took on the host school Friday. J.Z. George and Noxapater played Saturday afternoon.
The boys knocked off Noxapater 66-19 as sophomore D'Anthony McGlothan had a team-high 18 points.
The Jaguars jumped out to a 25-6 lead after the first period and increased their advantage to 44-15 at the half. The Jags dominated the third period as they held a 16-0 scoring edge for a 60-15 lead headed to the fourth quarter.
Malik Branch tacked on 15 points, and Brandon Watt tallied seven. Jordun Normal had six points.
The Lady Jaguars were also dominant as they posted a 44-20 win over Noxapater to improve to 1-5. J.Z. George led 15-2 after the first frame, 28-10 at the half and 36-15 after the third.
Tashanda Fleming had 14 points, and Natajah Basin chipped in 12. Tyeshia Grant had five points.
In games from Friday night, Kosciusko pulled off a sweep as the Whippets won the boys game 50-41 and claimed the girls contest 66-29.
Kosciusko led 19-9 after one, 23-20 at the half and 37-34 after the third in the boys contest. Normal had 16, and Branch seven for the Jags.
In the girls game, Kosciusko led 22-0 after one, 49-0 at the half and 59-26 after the third. Fleming had 11, and Jakayla Winters six for J.Z. George.
In games from Nov. 12 against Amanda Elzy, the Jaguars picked up their first win of the season as they beat the Panthers 56-49.
The Jaguars held a 15-11 lead after the first frame, but the Panthers went in front 24-23 by halftime. A 14-11 run by J.Z. George gave it a 37-34 lead headed to the fourth period.
McGlothan led the Jags with 17 points. Keldrick Glover had 11, and Normal six points.
The Lady Panthers secured a 42-26 win over the Lady Jags by pulling away in the fourth quarter. J.Z. George led 11-10 after one and the game was tied at 16 at the half. Elzy led 25-24 after the third and held a 17-2 advantage in the fourth.
Fleming led J.Z. George with 14 points. Jasmine Newman had five points, and Grant tallied four points.
J.Z. George played at Nanih Waiya Tuesday night and entertains McAdams Friday. The Lady Jags and Jaguars don't play again until Dec. 3 at Kosciusko.
