Four Jaguars scored in double figures as host J.Z. George High School posted an 81-65 win over Humphreys County last Friday night in North Carrollton.
The Cowboys jumped out to a 23-12 lead after the first period but the Jaguars came storming back to take a 41-37 lead at the half. A 14-11 run in the third period gave the Jags a 55-48 cushion headed to the final eight minutes.
Jordun Normal led J.Z. George (4-7 overall, 1-0 in Region 3-3A) with 19 points. Devante Smith tacked on 16 points, and Malik Branch hit for 14. Caesa Glenn had 11 points.
In the girls game, Humphreys County broke loose after an 8-8 tie after the first period to beat the Lady Jags 76-16. The Cowgirls went in front 42-11 by halftime and made it 66-13 after the third frame.
Tashanda Fleming led J.Z. George (2-10, 0-1) with six points. Dekeria Walls had five points.
J.Z. George is in the East Webster Tournament slated for Dec. 27-29 in Maben. The Lady Jags and Jaguars both will play East Webster on Dec. 27 at 6:30 and 8 p.m., respectively.
Should they both win, they would move on to face Pillow Academy on Dec. 28 at 6:30 and 8, but losses would throw them into the loser's bracket with games on Friday afternoon. The girls would either play South Pontotoc or Oak Hill Academy at 1:30, while the boys would take on either Louisville or Oak Hill at 2:45 p.m.
