J.Z. George’s run in the playoffs came to a halt on Tuesday night as Coahoma County beat the Jaguars 68-28 in a first-round game in the MHSAA Class 2A State Tournament.
The contest was played in Clarksdale.
The Red Panthers, the second seed from Region 3, jumped out to an 18-6 lead after the first frame. Coahoma went on a 17-6 run in the second period for a 35-12 advantage at the half. The host team outscored J.Z. George 13-6 in the third quarter for a 48-18 lead headed to the final period.
Junior D’Anthony McGlothan led the Jaguars with 14 points, and senior Keldrick Glover had six points.
The Jaguars came into the contest as the No. 3 seed from Region 2 after beating Bruce 72-65 in the consolation game of the Region 2 Tournament. J.Z. George, because of numerous delays with COVID-19, did not play its first game until Jan. 5. After an 0-5 start, they managed to win three of their final five games to close at 3-7 overall.
The Lady Jaguars did not make it out of the Region 2 Tournament, losing 40-18 to Eupora in the first round to finish 1-7 overall.
