After winning the 100 and 200 at the state 2A track meet last year, Krystle Hughes will add another race this year in Winona's first year in 3A. In a practice meet last week hosted by the Tigers, she also ran the 400.
“She had never run the 400 before. I was very pleased with her effort,” said Coach Chris McRae. “She is very open to doing whatever.”
Hughes will run all three race and will compete in the long jump when Winona has its first official meet March 29 at Madison Central. She was third in the long jump at last year's state meet.
On the boys side, McRae was pleased with the performances of all four relay team, Isaac Leech in the pole vault (11 feet) and Jaylyn Phillis in the discus (130 feet).
An'darious Coffey, Malcolm Gholston, Adavion Hargrove and Ahmad Robinson ran in the 400 and 800 relays, Coffey, Hargrove, Gholston and Jabraille Davis in the 1600 and Cameron Bullard, Carson Holley, Sam Matriscano and Syvan Merritt in the 3200.
Hargrove and Robinson ran on the 400 team that took gold at last year's state meet.
