The Stars opened up the season with a doubleheader against French Camp on Saturday, splitting a pair of games.
The Stars won 8-1 in the first game and lost 17-5 in the second contest.
“The pitching was about what I expected,” WCS coach Shannon Self said. “I would have liked to have seen a little better control from a couple of guys but again, it was our first time on a game mound against live batters all year. Defensively, I thought we played OK. Even though it was only the second time we have been on the field, I thought we should have made a few more plays. Overall, I was please. We have to continue to work hard and hopefully get some good weather to both play and practice.”
On the day, Dalton Wiggins had three hits with a double while John White had three singles on the day. Hayden Self had two hits with a home run and four RBIs. Latham Hill had two hits, including a home run and three RBIs while Reed Roberts and Choyce Diffey each had a single and a double.
“I thought we had some pretty good at-bats,” Self said. “We had a couple of bad mental approaches at the plate. It was our first time to see live pitching this year and it showed.”
