Each of the Winona Christian basketball teams managed to pick up a win this week on the hardwoods.
The Winona Christian boys beat Benton Academy 58-33 but fell 54-25 to Winston and 75-41 to Marshall.
The Lady Stars picked up a big 46-31 win over Marshall but dropped contests to Winston (51-15) and Benton (53-50).
Winona Christian will return to action this week as they will travel to Central Holmes on Tuesday in a district contest and then host Oak Hill on Friday in another district contest. They will finish off the week by travel to French Camp on Saturday for a non-district contest.
Winona Christian girls 46,
Marshall 31
The Lady Stars grabbed a much-needed division win as they beat Marshall Academy by 15 points last week.
The game was tight for the first three periods as Winona led 8-4 at the end of the first and 20-17 at the half. Marshall outscored Winona 8-4 in the third to take a 25-24 lead into the fourth. But Winona pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Marshall 22-6 to take the win.
Sara White led Winona Christian with 19 points while Jada Mims and Elise Diffey each had nine points apiece. Bella Roberts added eight points.
In the junior varsity game, Winona won 40-23 as Audrey Eldridge had 19 points and Bella Roberts added 15 points.
Winona Christian boys 58,
Benton 33
The Stars built a big first-half lead and cruised to a 25-point win over the Raiders on Thursday.
Winona jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first and led 37-15 at the half. The Stars extended the lead in the third, outscoring the Raiders 13-8 to take a 50-23 lead into the fourth.
Reed Roberts had a big game with 21 points while Zack Bailey had 12 points. Latham Hill and Dalton Wiggins each had nine points apiece.
Winston boys 54,
Winona Christian 25
The Stars struggled to start each half as Winston took a 29-point win.
Winston led 25-6 at the end of the first and 38-18 at the half. The Patriots outscored the Stars 14-2 in the third to lead 52-20 going to the fourth.
Zack Bailey led Winona with seven points while Latham Hill had six points and Reed Roberts added five points.
Winston girls 51,
Winona Christian 15
The Lady Stars struggled in the first half as Winston took a 36-point win last week.
Winston led 15-0 at the end of the first and 33-3 at the half. Winston outscored Winona 9-4 in the third and 9-8 in the fourth for the final.
Sara White led Winona with five points while Elise Diffey had four points.
In the junior varsity game, Winona came away with a 34-27 win as Audrey Eldridge led the way with 16 points and Bella Roberts added 11 points.
Marshall boys 75,
Winona Christian 41
After a tight first period, Marshall pulled away in the second period to take a 34-point win over the Stars.
Marshall led just 13-10 at the end of the first before outscoring the Stars 30-7 in the second to lead 43-17 at the half. The Stars fought back in the third, outscoring the Patriots 20-12 to make the score 55-37 going to the fourth. But Marshall finished the game by outscoring Winona 20-4 for the final.
Latham Hill led Winona with 17 points while Zack Bailey had 17 points. Deuce Irwin and Reed Roberts each had six points apiece.
Benton girls 53,
Winona Christian 50
The Lady Raiders built a big lead in the first half but needed overtime to beat the Lady Stars on Thursday.
Benton led 14-10 at the end of the first and 25-14 at the half. Winona then outscored the Lady Raiders 17-8 in the third to cut the lead to 33-31 going into the fourth. Winona outscored Benton 13-11 in the fourth to tie the game at 44 and force overtime. Benton outscored Winona 9-6 in overtime to take the win.
Bella Roberts led Winona with 15 points while Jada Mims had 14 points. Elise Diffey added 11 and Sara White had seven.
