Carroll Academy came back from the Christmas break and swept a pair of district contests from rival Winona Christian.
The Lady Rebels took a 41-28 win over the Lady Stars while the Rebels took a 54-42 win over the Stars to sweep the season series.
Carroll was scheduled to return to action on Tuesday as it traveled to West Point to take on Oak Hill Academy in a district contest. On Friday, Carroll will travel to Decatur to take on Newton County Academy. The following week, Carroll will travel to Central Holmes on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Carroll will finally return home on Friday, Jan. 18 as they host Indianola in a district contest.
Winona Christian will return to action on Tuesday as they host Indianola in a district contest before traveling to Oak Hill on Friday. The following week, Winona will travel to Indianola on Tuesday, Jan. 14 before hosting Canton on Thursday, Jan. 16. On Saturday, Jan. 18, Winona will travel to Lee (Ark.) Academy.
Lady Rebels 41, WCS 28
The Lady Rebels got off to a quick start and took a 13-point win over the Lady Stars.
Carroll jumped out quick as they outscored Winona 14-3 in the first period and 10-6 in the second to lead 24-9 at the half. Winona cut into that lead in the second half as they outscored Carroll 8-7 in the third and 11-10 in the fourth for the final margin.
Gracie Turner led Carroll with 17 points while Dru Chamblee had 10 points and five steals. Mary Jordan Milton had nine rebounds and six points while Lainey Claire Dunn had six rebounds.
Bella Roberts led Winona with 11 points while Audrey Eldridge and Sara Beth Burden each had six points apiece.
Rebels 54, WCS 42
The Rebels got another big game from Reese Fulton as they took a 12-point win over the Stars on Friday.
Carroll led 13-9 at the end of the first period before the Rebels outscored the Stars 15-0 in the second to take a 28-9 lead at the half. Winona took the third period13-11 to cut the lead to 39-22 going into the fourth. Winona outscored Carroll 20-15 in the fourth but the Rebels held on to take the 12-point win.
Fulton had another double-double for the Rebels with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Smith had 14 points while Brett Harper added eight points.
Choyce Diffey led Winona with 15 points while Dalton Wiggins had 11 points. Jake Ware also chipped in nine points while Reed Roberts had five points.
