With district play right around the corner, Carroll Academy was able to get in two games this week.
The Rebels lost 8-4 to Calhoun Academy on Tuesday and then lost 5-0 to Benton on Friday to end the week.
Carroll will return to play this week as they travel to Central Holmes Thursday in a district game to finish out the week. CA’s home Tuesday doubleheader with the same team was postponed due to rain.
Calhoun 8, Carroll 4
The Cougars used some timely hitting to take a four-run win over the Rebels on Thursday.
Calhoun scored two runs in the first and third innings and led 5-0 after four innings. Carroll scored one in the fifth and seventh and two in the sixth while Calhoun finished with three runs in the sixth.
Calhoun outhit Carroll 9-7 in the contest. The Rebels were led by Drew Thomas who was 3-for-3 while James Neill was 2-for-4 with a triple. Zach Downs had a double while Maddox Carpenter singled and scored a run.
Downs pitched the first three innings and was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs on five hits and struck out three. Braxton York pitched the next two innings and gave up four runs on two hits and four walks and struck out four. Thomas finished the game with two scoreless innings on 15 pitches.
Benton 5, Carroll 0
The Rebels managed just four hits as they suffered a shutout loss to the Raiders on Friday.
Benton scored one run in the first, third and sixth innings and then scored two in the fifth.
Benton outhit Carroll 7-4. Braxton York was 2-for-4 in the contest with a triple and James Neill was 2-for-3.
Zach Downs pitched one inning and gave up one run on two hits and James Neill pitched two innings and gave up one run on three hits. Maddox Carpenter gave up two runs on four walks and Lofton Holly pitched the final two innings and gave up one run on two hits.
