On Tuesday, Nov. 19, at approximately 11:56 a.m., Winona Police Department officers responded to the area of North Central Ave. near Schneider Dr. for reports of shots fired. Upon arriving, officers were advised by witnesses that two black males were seen running south bound towards South Central Ave. and gave a clothing description.
At approximately 12 p.m., officers observed the two male subjects on South Central Ave., at which time they were detained for investigation. Throughout the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the two male subjects were the victims of the reported shooting and that the shooting occurred at 300 North Central Ave.
Officers arrived at 300 North Central Ave. and made contact with a 17-year-old male. Officers recovered multiple spent 9mm shell casings outside of the residence. A consensual search of the residence yielded a 9mm handgun that was hidden in a void located inside of a wall. This led to the arrest of 17-year-old Tylandis Newman for two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
Newman was transported to the Carroll Montgomery County Correctional Facility where he was booked and processed. Due to the nature and severity of the crime, Newman is being charged as an adult. No bond has been set at this time.
