Montgomery County voters will return to the polls on Nov. 29 to cast their ballots in the runoff election between Alan D. Devo Lancaster and Doug Evans. Evans and Lancaster will be the only two candidates this time around, according to Montgomery County Circuit Clerk Lanelle Martin. According to the circuit clerk’s official results of the Nov. 8 election, Lancaster secured 2,042 votes from ballots cast in Montgomery County, and Evans gained 427 votes. Martin said Kasey Young picked up 224 votes with Doug Crosby gathering 140 votes and Zachary Madison securing 79 votes.
Other races on the Nov. 8 ballot were not contested, including the Winona Montgomery Consolidated School Board member, District 1 Position 1 Court of Appeals Judge, Chancery District 3-2 Place 2 Chancery Court Judge, Chancery District 3-2 Place 3 Chancery Court Judge and Circuit District 5 Place 1 Circuit Court Judge. However, the in race for the Second Congressional District U.S. House of Representatives were incumbent Bennie Thompson and challenger Brian Flowers.According to official results in Montgomery County, Flowers secured 1,772 votes, and Thompson acquired 1,225 votes. During the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors regular meeting on Monday, the board agreed to ratify the circuit clerk signing an agreement with ES&S for support for the Nov. 29 runoff election. “That’s just a standard thing they do with the elections,” said Martin of the support the company provides.

- Supervisors authorized the chancery clerk to issue handwritten checks for certain accounts without further approval of the board.
- They agreed to ratify a contract for professional services with Randy King to provide safety inspection services as a contractor for the unit system.
- Members of the board authorized the board president to sign an interlocal agreement with the City of Winona and Laurie Lockett to collect the City of Winona real and personal property taxes.
- Board members authorized the circuit clerk to void outstanding juror checks and reimburse the county general fund. They also authorized her to destroy all jury selection and service papers through 2018, according to MS Code 13-5-36.
- Supervisors authorized an agreement with Rose Business Equipment for the use of a copier in Justice Court for $150 per month.
- They agreed to ratify the clerk issuing a handwritten check to Thompson Machinery for $5,865.69 in delinquent invoices.
- Board members agreed to pay the $20,000 third year of subscription for a Zetron call-taking system for the Emergency Operations Center.
- They approved a final request for funds for Biewer Sawmill in the amount of $23,764.
- Board members agreed to fund the Riley Road project.
