Area organizations and towns will honor our fallen veterans with programs on Friday and Monday.
On Friday, Carroll Academy will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony at the school's gym at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 8 for the county. Senator Lydia Chassaniol will be the guest speaker. Local veterans will provide the color guard.
Proclamations will be issued to the mayors of Carrollton and North Carrollton and to the Chancery Clerk for Carroll County. The Carroll Academy Student Council, sponsored as the Douglas Carroll Junior American Citizens by Third Arrow Chapter, Mississippi Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will hold a reception afterwards.
All veterans and local citizens are invited to attend and help us honor all veterans of all wars and thank them for their service to help keep this great nation free.
On Monday, the town of Vaiden will hold its Veterans Day Ceremony at the Vaiden Courthouse at 11a.m. The J.Z. George High School band will perform the National Anthem and a snippet of their show they’re performing at the Mississippi State Marching Band Competition. The speaker for the event will be Henry Mathews.
In Winona, the annual Veterans Day Program will be held at 9:30 a.m., at the Montgomery County Courthouse. The program is sponsored by the American Legion Post 52 and the Thomas Rodney Chapter MSSDAR
The speaker for the program will be Mark Lawson. Others taking part in the ceremony are Rev. Linda Little-Malone, Elder Darvis Tate, Benny Rigby and Boy Scout Troop 4039.
