WINONA – A third man has been charged in connection with a March home invasion.
Lavarius James Peterson, 21, of Lexington was arrested April 16 and charged with armed robbery and burglary with intent to terrorize for allegedly robbing a Winona family at their home.
According to Captain Dan Herod, chief investigator for the Winona Police Department, the charges stem from a March 22 incident at a North Union Extended residence.
Herod said police were alerted to the home after the residents called 911 alleging that two men forced their way into their home and robbed them at gunpoint.
The gunmen allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the home, Herod said.
He said a female and two small children were present during the robbery, and that is what warranted the burglary with intent to terrorize charge.
On April 16, Herod said he received a tip that Peterson, who had been identified as one of the suspects who allegedly entered the home, was at an apartment complex in Grenada, and he contacted Kenneth Sanders with the Grenada Police Department.
“Kenneth Sanders and some Grenada officers went over and took him into custody,” Herod said. “Chief Tommy Bibbs and I went to get him Monday night and transported him back to Carroll Montgomery [Regional Correctional Facility in Vaiden,]” Herod said.
Two other men have been arrested and charged in case. Latravian “Trey” Martiz Green and Tyvon Hammer have also been charged. Green is charged with armed robbery and burglary with intent to terrorize, and Hamer is charged with armed robbery. Herod said Hamer was identified as the alleged driver in the vehicle.
“The victims called the police and identified the men as suspects,” Herod said.
Tuesday, Peterson appeared before Judge Donald Bond in Winona City Court. Bond was set at $500,000 for each charge for a total of $1 million. Peterson’s preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday in Winona City Court.
Both Green and Hamer were bound over to a Montgomery County Grand Jury March 27, 2018, in Winona City Court.
Green is being held at the Carroll Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility in Vaiden on a $1 million bond. Hamer is being held at the Webster County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
