A 20-year-old Vaiden man has been arrested and charged with commercial burglary in connection with a break-in at Vaiden City Hall on July 12, 2018.
According to a release from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Ladacric Fleming was arrested Monday, Aug. 27 and charged with commercial burglary.
During the town of Vaiden’s August board meeting, Mayor Mel Hawthorne said someone broke three windows in city hall. One in the boardroom, the backside of the police department, and one in the water and sewer department.
Hawthorne said the windows are still in need of repair, and he’s awaiting an estimate from Tune’s Glass in Grenada as to what the cost will be to fix the damage.
“He broke some expensive windows,” Hawthorne said. He said the wood paneling around the windows along with the double insulation, makes the windows expensive.
“But, I’m not sure what expensive means,” he said.
He said after taking inventory, they haven’t found anything missing.
“It’s nothing large if he did, it’s small. We were looking at the video and if he did take something, it was hidden inside of a book bag he had on his back. But, we don’t know. It could be something small,” he said.
