The Carroll County Board of Supervisors have been conducting interviews for its next Veteran Service Officer.
The position was vacated after the death of Command Sergeant Major Johnny Marlow, who held the position. At their board meeting Monday, Jackie McKinney and Glen Winger came before the board to speak.
McKinney withdrew her resume, stating that she submitted her resume in August and the board “sat on it for three months” before they did anything. She said she was the first person to turn in her resume, and she said she believes the board held it to get more.
“Why? Because you weren’t going to hire me anyway,” McKinney said.
The board told Winger they appreciated that he came to talk with them and he could come back to the next board meeting when they interview more candidates.
Another candidate, Mike O’Neil came to the Nov. 25 meeting to introduce himself to board members as well. Board members told both men on both appearances they appreciated the fact they took the time to come before the board and speak with them.
They also received another resume for John E. Welch.
“This is the last one that we’re going to take,” Board President Rickie Corley said.
“Shouldn’t you have a cut-off date?” McKinney asked. “Shouldn’t you put out there that there’s a cutoff date?”
The board agreed that Monday was the last day for anyone to submit a resume for the position. No decision has been made as of yet.
The board also spoke with Mary Bennett and Sharon Tollison with the Vaiden Public Library. The Library Board and members of the Vaiden Beautification Committee are looking to have the carpet in the library replaced with either new carpet or stained concrete.
Bennett said she would rather have new carpet because it’s quieter. The board approved new carpet in the library and stained concrete in the conference room, up to $5,000. Tollison said she’s stained concrete before, and Sheriff Clint Walker said inmates could help with the work.
