The Carroll County Board of Supervisors has approved the installation of plexiglass in each of the 14 voting precincts.
With the upcoming run-off between Republican candidates Thomas L. Carey and Brian Flowers for the Second Congressional District Primary on June 23 and November’s General Elections on the horizon, supervisors chose to install plexiglass to protect voters during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Supervisors also heard from Dorothy Young, William Merchant and Robert Cotton with the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services out of Lexington. Chancery Clerk Casey Carpenter said Young, Merchant and Cotton spoke to the board about having a person that is vision impaired to work for the county. No action was taken on this matter.
In other business:
The board received a $25,000 grant for work on County Road 219 that will give access to the new Delta’s Edge Solar Farm. Also, Emergency Management and Civil Defense Director Ken Strachan told the board theFederal Emergency Management Agency deposited $33,000 into Carroll County’s bank account as a recoup from storm damage earlier this year.
Supervisor Jim Neill informed the board that the work on a bridge on County Road 78 has been completed.
Hired Nicholas Murphy full time at the Carroll-Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility
Approved sanitation deletions and adjustments and approved to do sanitation deletions and adjustments every six months.
Heard from Tax Assessor Wilton Neal who turned in 232 Homestead Applications for 2020 to the Department of Revenue
Awarded J.J. Ferguson the bid for work on Airport Road.
Approved to create new parking spaces at the Vaiden Courthouse. Carpenter said there will be two handicapped spots, and spots for judges and their court reporters.
Approved the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department to purchase lights and other accessories for three new 2016 Chevrolet Tahoes they received from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department from Southern Connections Police Supply in the amount of $17,000. Sheriff Clint Walker said he’d reached out to Madison County before and he’s glad that they were willing to sell Carroll County the vehicles. He said he hopes the two counties can work together more.
Approved Beat 5 Supervisor Rickie Corley to purchase a new truck.
Accepted a $3,500 bid from Buddy Ethridge for a D5 Bulldozer and a ’76 Mac Truck.
